Studio Diary #4: Sunburn Music Video

While the the video was filmed in Canada, it all originated when the director, Ben Steiger Levine came to my show in Brooklyn, NY at the Sultan Room. A week later got my number and called me with the idea.

Aside from the fact that I’d never done a real shoot before, or work with a real crew, there was also the part where he wanted to shoot me half naked in the dead of winter in Canada -

(there’s probably 30 hand warmers in those wadder pants above… lol

But in a funny way it was freeing. I’d want to nail the shots up front- cuz I’d be freezing. And I figured if I could get through this video shoot, I could feel a sense of confidence about who knows what I’ll have to do in the future as a musical artist. So I said yes.

I had to sit in make up every morning from 4am to about 7 when we’d start shooting.

I knew I was gonna be freezing. And I was nervous performing in front of a real crew- but what I failed to think about was how everyone on set would be speaking French- and since I couldn’t understand what they were saying, I couldn’t feel insecure really- and it actually helped me stay focused a lot.
